Ingredients:

- 1 box chocolate cake mix                                  


- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

- 1 cup heavy cream

- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate for garnish (optional)


Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

   

2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the instructions on the box.


3. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.


4. Bake the cakes in the preheated oven according to the package instructions, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.


5. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.


6. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate or cake stand.


7. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the top of the first cake layer.


8. Place the second cake layer on top of the cherry filling.


9. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until it starts to thicken.


10. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the whipped cream, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.


11. Spread the whipped cream over the top and sides of the cake.


12. If desired, garnish the cake with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate.


13. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
